Laurel Amigos Mexican Grill Shooting: Massive Police Response, Multiple Injured

A large police response was reported Tuesday night after gunfire erupted at Amigos Mexican Grill, a popular restaurant located along Baltimore Avenue in Laurel, Maryland. Initial reports from local outlet The DMV Daily indicated that at least two people — a man and a woman — were injured in the shooting.

Their conditions were not immediately known as emergency crews secured the area and witnesses fled the scene. Authorities had not yet issued an official statement at the time of reporting, leaving several details unclear, including the total number of victims, whether any suspects had been detained, and what may have triggered the violence.

Videos posted online appeared to show a heavy law enforcement presence surrounding the commercial area near the restaurant, with flashing police lights stretching across sections of Baltimore Avenue.

One witness posting on social media wrote that “people were running everywhere” moments after shots rang out.

The incident unfolded during Cinco de Mayo celebrations, when restaurants and entertainment venues across the region were experiencing heavier-than-usual crowds.

Witnesses Describe Chaos Outside Restaurant

As news of the shooting spread online, multiple individuals claiming to have been near the scene described panic and confusion in the immediate aftermath. One Facebook user wrote that gunfire began while traffic was backed up near the intersection close to the restaurant. “I was at the intersection trying to turn to go home and shots started going,” the person wrote. “People running everywhere and police trying to get through.”

Another resident suggested the area had been especially crowded due to Cinco de Mayo gatherings. “Drove past there earlier and it was packed,” one comment read. Several online posts also referenced possible additional victims, though those claims had not been independently confirmed by authorities.

The Laurel Police Department had not formally commented on the shooting by late Tuesday, and investigators had yet to publicly confirm the scale of the incident.

The shooting occurred as communities across the United States marked Cinco de Mayo, the annual celebration commemorating Mexico’s victory at the Battle of Puebla in 1862. Restaurants, bars and public venues across Maryland had reported elevated foot traffic throughout the evening.
