Labout Party shifts congresses, convention to March 28, April 11

The Labour Party has announced the postponement of its scheduled congresses and national convention, which were earlier set to begin on Thursday, March 26, 2026.

The development was disclosed in a statement on Tuesday in Abuja by Ken Asogwa, Senior Special Adviser (Media) to the Interim National Chairman.

Asogwa also revealed that the party has inaugurated a planning committee to oversee the rescheduled activities.

According to the party’s earlier timetable, ward congresses were to hold on March 26, followed by local government congresses on March 28, state congresses on March 31, and the national convention on April 11, 2026.

He explained that the decision to postpone the exercise followed a stakeholders’ meeting involving members of the Interim National Working Committee (NWC) and representatives of labour unions.

The party said the shift would allow more time for members and prospective Nigerians to fully participate in the ongoing membership re-registration exercise.

“As part of efforts to ensure a seamless and credible process, the party has also inaugurated a 45-member Congresses and Convention Committee,” the statement said.

The committee is chaired by Ginger Onwusibe, who represents Isiala Ngwa South/Isiala Ngwa North Federal Constituency. Other members include Obinna Aguocha, Amaobi Ogah, Ibe Okwara, and Alex Mascot Ikwechegh, among others.

While inaugurating the committee, the party’s National Chairman, Nenadi Usman, urged members to carry out their duties with diligence, impartiality, and commitment.

She encouraged them to use the postponement period to ensure thorough preparations for smooth and successful congresses and convention.

The party appealed to its members, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), and supporters nationwide for understanding, adding that a new timetable would be announced in due course.
