KMA Sanitation Task Force Intensifies Citywide Inspections In Kumasi As Officials Move House-To-House To Enforce Sanitation By-Laws And Promote Clean Surroundings

The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) has intensified its sanitation enforcement drive with a new citywide operation aimed at ensuring strict compliance with environmental and sanitation by-laws.

A video from the exercise shows members of the sanitation task force, popularly known as “Saman Saman” or “Tankas,” moving through residential areas within the metropolis to inspect homes, surroundings, and drainage systems.

The officials were seen engaging residents while monitoring sanitation conditions in different communities.

According to the Assembly, the operation forms part of ongoing efforts to improve hygiene standards across Kumasi and reduce the growing risk of flooding caused by clogged gutters and poor waste disposal practices.

As part of the enforcement, individuals found to be in breach of sanitation regulations are reportedly arrested and processed through the appropriate legal channels, including the Prempeh Assembly Hall District Court.

Officials of the KMA say the exercise is not intended to intimidate residents but to enforce existing by-laws and promote responsible waste management. They emphasized that sanitation remains a shared responsibility, urging households, traders, and landlords to ensure their surroundings are kept clean at all times.

The Assembly further warned that the task force will continue its operations across all sub-metropolitan areas, with sustained inspections expected in the coming weeks as part of a broader strategy to improve public health and urban cleanliness.

Residents have been advised to cooperate with the enforcement teams and adopt proper sanitation practices to help reduce environmental hazards and flooding risks within the city.
