The federal ministry of works has announced a traffic diversion on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway to allow for the replacement of damaged expansion joints on Kara bridge.
In a statement on Saturday by Olayiwola Komolafe, the federal controller of works in Ogun State, the repair work is scheduled to begin on March 10 and will last for about two weeks, ending on March 24.
The ministry advised motorists to use alternative routes during the repair period to ease traffic congestion.
Drivers travelling from Ikorodu to Mowe, Sagamu, and Ibadan were advised to pass through Shimawa or Mosinmi, while those leaving Lagos Island were encouraged to take the Epe corridor through Ijebu Ode to reach their destinations.
The ministry also warned motorists that shorter routes might not necessarily be faster and urged them to plan their journeys early, obey traffic officials, and drive cautiously around the construction zone.
It added that the temporary diversion is necessary to ensure the safety, durability, and stability of the road infrastructure.
Earlier, the ministry had announced a partial closure of sections of the expressway to carry out urgent repairs on expansion joints at Kara Bridge, Magboro Bridge, and Arepo-Punch Bridge after the structures deteriorated and began posing safety risks to motorists.
