Kai Trump is settling into her freshman year at the University of Miami with a new apartment and a demanding schedule as a student-athlete.

The 18-year-old recently gave viewers a look around the Florida residence she now calls home. She also revealed some of the personal touches she has added to the space.

While the harmless video was met with kind words from supporters, it has since gone viral on social media, with mixed reactions over Kai Trump’s lavish apartment for college and how she spoke.

Kai gave her YouTube subscribers a glimpse inside her new Florida apartment after receiving plenty of curiosity about where she would be living during college. Although the residence is far from the typical freshman setup, she acknowledged how fortunate she is to have it.

“I’m very, very lucky to have this obviously as a freshman,” Kai said, adding that she enjoys returning to a place of her own at the end of the day.

The apartment includes a spacious kitchen, which Kai considers her “favorite part,” as well as a living room furnished with a white couch, television, and fireplace. She has also decorated the home with artwork reflecting some of her interests, including a black-and-white image of Aspen gondolas and a New York City skyline photograph.

The residence also contains a guest bathroom and a separate office where she can complete her schoolwork. Her bedroom features its own bathroom and a walk-in closet, while other personal decorations include a car photograph and a picture of Kai riding in a golf cart with her grandfather, Donald Trump.

Social media has not reacted too kindly to the clip of the 18-year-old granddaughter of President Trump flaunting her new apartment.

In a post shared on X with over 20 million views, several people seemed to take aim at how lavish the place looked, while also attacking Kai because of her family.

One viral comment read, “Anytime I see a politician’s kid having luxury things, I just know they’re using my tax.”

Another person said, “Meanwhile, most students are 100K in debt, calling 211 for local food banks they can go to for canned food. I f-cking hate these people.”

“‘I hung that, and I hung that.’ We should just give her the Nobel right now,” a third person sarcastically commented.

Another noted, “Obviously she thinks she’s too good for dorm life like a normal kid. So obnoxious & entitled.”

Critics took aim at Kai’s way of talking too, with one person writing, “She speaks like she has a mouthful of marbles wtf.”

Another commented, “You need subtitles to understand her. Hope she grows out of her speech problems.”

“Can she learn to articulate her words properly? She sounds like she has taxpayer dollars in her mouth when she speaks,” one harsh critic noted.

Having a place of her own may be exciting, but leaving her family behind proved harder for Kai than she expected.

While documenting her move to Miami in a vlog, the teenager became emotional as she prepared to say goodbye to the people closest to her.

The reaction surprised even Kai, who admitted that crying is unusual for her. “I’m not a very emotional person at all, so this is like really weird for me to cry,” she explained.

The reality of leaving home appeared to hit particularly hard as her departure approached. “I think knowing that I have to say goodbye to everyone tonight really, really sucks,” she said.

Despite the difficult goodbye, Kai has not completely separated herself from home. She revealed that she has already returned home several times since starting college, allowing her to stay connected to the familiar surroundings she left behind.

Her commitment to the sport also gives her another reason to make frequent trips back home to Jupiter, where her coaches, trainers, and golf equipment are based. Whenever her schedule gives her some breathing room, she tries to use the opportunity to return home and continue working on her game.

“I haven’t really explored Miami yet because I’m so busy with the golf,” Kai admitted. However, she does not appear bothered by missing out on the city’s social scene.

“I’m here for golf; I’m not here to party in Miami, so I guess that’s OK,” she added. For Kai, enjoying college therefore appears to be less about experiencing Miami’s nightlife and more about balancing academics with the sport that brought her to the university.

Kai’s transition to independence has also brought some unexpected difficulties. During her first days away from home, the demands of moving, classes, and athletics disrupted even basic parts of her routine.

In a vlog documenting the transition, Kai revealed that her friend Emma brought her groceries and frozen meals after noticing she had barely been eating.

“Emma got me some frozen foods because I haven’t eaten in like three days,” she said.

Her first week of classes then became even tougher when she developed “strep throat”. Feeling unwell eventually sent her back to Jupiter, where she turned to her mother for help. “I came all the way back to Jupiter because I was so sick. I needed, like, my mom to nurse me back to health,” Kai explained.

The experience showed that while Kai is getting used to the freedom of having her own place, adapting to life away from home has required some adjustment. Her early days at college have involved learning to manage a busy athletic and academic schedule while also taking care of herself.
