Kaduna: Police speak on alleged invasion of JKD TV, arrest of staff

The Police have described reports that its personnel invaded JKD TV/Hamada Radio Network in Kaduna and arrested two staff members as false and misleading

The spokesperson of Kaduna Police Command, DSP Mansir Hassan, dismissed the claim in a statement on Sunday.

Hassan said the publication was intended to create public pressure and divert attention from an ongoing investigation while insisting that the police did not invade the media station and did not arrest or detain any of its staff.

The Kaduna Police spokesperson however said the station’s General Manager, Mr Charles Abah, was invited over a complaint relating to a matter under investigation.

He said Abah honoured the invitation and was subsequently allowed to leave, while the security guard was also not detained.

The PPRO expressed concern that a platform published the allegation without verifying the information with the police command.

He said it was more troubling that a follow-up publication, 48 hours later, repeated the claim that the individuals remained in detention.

The Kaduna Police spokesperson described the development as a serious failure of basic verification by an organisation whose reports shape public perception of law enforcement.

He said the matter remained under investigation, adding that appropriate legal action would follow where culpability was established.

The command urged members of the public to disregard the publication and rely on verified information from the Command.

“The Kaduna State Police Command remains focused on its primary role of protecting lives and property, while ensuring that the rule of law is upheld,” Hassan said.

He added that the command remained accountable and committed to maintaining professionalism in the discharge of its responsibilities.
