Joseph Monday’s career bridges ICT, education, digital media

As digital technology continues to transform education, business and communication in Nigeria, professionals with multidisciplinary experience are playing an increasingly important role in driving innovation across sectors.

Among them is Information Technology professional and media entrepreneur, Joseph Monday, whose career spans computer engineering, education and digital publishing.

Monday, an indigene of Olamaboro Local Government Area of Kogi State, is of Igala extraction. Through his mother, who hails from Ogbadibo Local Government Area of Benue State, he also has Idoma heritage and is fluent in the language. He spent his formative years in Kaduna State, where he completed his primary and secondary education before pursuing a career in computer science.

He obtained a National Diploma in Computer Science from Nasarawa Polytechnic and later earned a Higher National Diploma from the Federal Polytechnic, Bida. Seeking to deepen his expertise, he proceeded to Ignatius Ajuru University of Education, Port Harcourt, where he obtained both a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Science degree in Computer Science.

Monday began his professional career with Abbey Computer Hardware and Software Company in Nasarawa, where he specialised in computer repairs, hardware maintenance, software installation and technical support. His responsibilities included helping individuals and organisations maintain computer systems and resolve technical challenges affecting their operations.

He later joined Genesis ICT on Kigo Road in Kaduna as an Information Technology professional. During his time with the organisation, he worked on computer installations, network support, software maintenance and other ICT services, contributing to technology adoption among businesses and individual users.

His career subsequently expanded into education when he joined Favour Home School as an Information Technology, Mathematics and English Language teacher. Beyond classroom instruction, he introduced students to computer literacy and digital applications, reflecting the growing emphasis on equipping young learners with practical digital skills.

During his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Monday also taught Mathematics, Computer Studies and English Language, continuing his contribution to education by combining conventional teaching with technology-based learning methods.

His academic research focused on practical ICT solutions. One project developed an online examination system designed to improve staff recruitment processes, while another explored a Braille recognition system aimed at enhancing digital accessibility for visually impaired users.

Building on his experience in information technology and digital communication, Monday founded Vertex Media and Tech Group, a company operating at the intersection of technology and media. The group includes subsidiaries such as Pulsereports Media and News Hub Media, reflecting the increasing convergence of digital technology and modern journalism.

Industry observers note that Nigeria’s expanding digital economy has created new opportunities for professionals with expertise spanning ICT, education and communication. The integration of technology into classrooms, businesses and media organisations continues to drive demand for individuals capable of applying technical knowledge across multiple sectors.
