Right after a church service, an unknown Nigerian pastor has swapped his usual role behind the pulpit for one behind a giant pot of jollof rice, personally scooping out hot servings for members as they filed past.

Seated on a plastic chair beside a large cooler brimming with rice and chicken, the pastor worked through the crowd with a steady rhythm, ladling generous portions into bowls held out by congregants queuing patiently in the church hall.

Another church official joined in, helping dish out chicken pieces alongside him as the line moved steadily forward.

The scene, captured on a green carpeted floor with worshippers still filtering in from outside, showed none of the usual formality associated with Sunday service. Instead, it played out more like a community feast, with the man of God rolling up his sleeves to make sure everyone left with a full plate.

Whether the gesture was inspired by a word from the pulpit or simply the pastor’s own way of showing love to his flock, members clearly weren’t complaining, each stepping up with their bowls ready as the pot slowly emptied.

By the time the line thinned out, what had started as an ordinary Sunday gathering had turned into a shared meal, with pastor and congregation eating from the same pot before heading their separate ways home.
