Iran: The Problem Is Nature Of US Approach; Its Irrational, Excessive, Hegemonic Approach -Araghchi
According to a report by Al Jazeera on July 23, 2026, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi addressed the national media during the meeting between Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi in Tehran.
Speaking about Ali al-Zaidi’s recent visit to Washington, Araghchi said, “[The Iraqi PM] had a trip to Washington, and it is natural for him to convey his own views and impressions from that trip to us, which is a normal matter.” He indicated that it was expected for the Iraqi leader to brief Iranian officials on discussions and observations from the visit.
Araghchi also dismissed concerns over communication channels between Iran and the United States, saying mediation was not the main obstacle. “Moreover, we do not currently have a problem with the issue of mediators with the United States – there are enough mediators between us who are carrying out this role,” he said.
The foreign minister stressed that the exchange of messages between both countries was not the issue. Instead, he pointed to what he described as Washington’s overall posture toward Tehran.
“The problem is the nature of the US approach – its irrational, excessive and hegemonic approach – which has been met with a firm response from our side,” Araghchi said.
He concluded by reiterating Iran’s position that any progress in relations would require a change in the US approach. “As long as they do not understand that there is no way forward other than respecting the Iranian people and respecting their interests, it will not be effective,” the Iranian foreign minister said…....
