IPOB Declares Actions of Dissolved Directorate Void, Reaffirms Nnamdi Kanu’s Authority

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has dismissed recent actions taken by members of its dissolved Directorate of State (DOS), declaring all directives, statements and decisions issued by the former leadership null and void.

Naijapunchnews reports that the group made its position known in an official statement issued on June 19, 2026, and signed by IPOB’s spokesperson and Media and Publicity Secretary, Emma Powerful.

The statement follows an internal leadership dispute within the separatist movement after IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu, reportedly dissolved the third administration of the Directorate of State and approved the inauguration of a new fourth administration headed by Mazi Chris Nwaọgụ.

According to IPOB, the dissolution of the previous leadership structure was carried out under powers vested exclusively in Kanu by the organisation’s Code of Conduct and became effective immediately upon its announcement.

IPOB Rejects Alleged Suspension of Leadership Offices

The organisation specifically condemned reports that members of the dissolved administration led by Chika Edoziem had purportedly announced the suspension of the offices of the IPOB leader and the Director of Radio Biafra.

IPOB described the move as unconstitutional and without legal effect within the framework of the organisation.

According to the statement, individuals whose tenure had already been terminated could not exercise authority or issue directives on behalf of the movement.

The group argued that any attempt by former office holders to challenge decisions taken by the recognised leadership amounted to a violation of established organisational procedures.

Group Cites IPOB Constitution

In explaining its position, IPOB referenced provisions of its Code of Conduct, which it said grants exclusive powers of appointment, suspension and dismissal of principal officers to Nnamdi Kanu as the leader of the movement.

The statement maintained that no committee, coordinator, principal officer or administrative body possesses constitutional authority to suspend, remove or overrule the leader.

IPOB therefore insisted that any action purportedly taken against Kanu’s office lacked legal foundation under the movement’s governing regulations.

Allegations of Insubordination

The organisation accused members of the dissolved administration of engaging in acts it described as insubordination and misconduct.

According to the statement, the actions of the former officials constituted a breach of the group’s code and threatened its command structure and internal discipline.

IPOB alleged that rather than accepting the leadership transition, some members of the dissolved administration sought to challenge the authority from which they previously derived their legitimacy.

The movement stressed that organisational discipline and respect for established authority remain fundamental principles guiding its operations.

Members Directed to Ignore Communications From Former Leadership

IPOB formally informed its members worldwide that the third administration of the Directorate of State no longer exists and therefore lacks the authority to issue instructions or make decisions on behalf of the organisation.

The group stated that all communications, appointments, suspensions and directives issued by members of the dissolved administration after their removal should be disregarded.

According to the statement, such actions are incapable of creating any binding effect within the movement.

Appeal to Media Organisations

The organisation also called on journalists and media organisations to exercise caution when reporting developments relating to IPOB.

It urged media outlets to verify the source of statements attributed to the movement and avoid presenting communications from individuals no longer recognised by its leadership as official positions.

IPOB stated that only communications issued through authorised channels and endorsed by recognised officials should be regarded as representing the organisation.

Support for New Administration

The statement reaffirmed support for the newly constituted fourth administration of the Directorate of State under the leadership of Chris Nwaọgụ.

According to IPOB, the new administration remains fully operational and accountable to Nnamdi Kanu.

The group urged members across the world to remain calm, disciplined and focused on what it described as the movement’s objectives and aspirations.

Warning Against Further Defiance

IPOB concluded the statement with a warning that any member or group that continues to challenge the authority of the recognised leadership or violate provisions of its Code of Conduct could face disciplinary measures.

The organisation said sanctions could include suspension, removal from office or expulsion from the movement.

The latest development highlights ongoing internal tensions within IPOB as rival factions continue to assert competing claims regarding the leadership and direction of the organisation.
