Increments of NECO, WASSCE fees will increase out of school children – Oguntoyinbo

The senatorial candidate of All Peoples Movement, APM in Oyo Central District, Olufemi Oguntoyinbo has said the proposed increment in the West African Senior School Certificate Examination, WASSCE, and National Examinations Council, NECO, registration fees will increase the number of out of school children in the country.

Oguntoyinbo who made the assertion in a statement on Thursday, urged the federal government to drop the plan totally.

The federal government had recently announced that it will increase the registration fees but later suspended the proposal.

He noted that the planned increase should not be suspended but dropped totally, insisting that there is reason to increase the fees at this time when the majority of Nigerians are struggling to eat.

He said, “The duties of the governments is to adequately educate its citizens, so it is odd that the federal government is hiking examination fees when many parents are not financially buoyant to send their wards to schools and the number of school drop outs is on the increase.

“If not for some well to do individuals in the country who are assisting the indigent students, the number of school drop outs would have reached an alarming rate”.
