Imo police arrest two vigilantes over viral assault of siblings in Okigwe
The Imo State Police Command has reacted to a trending video depicting the physical assault of a young woman and her brother in Okigwe, Imo state. The victims were reportedly en route to Abia State University when the incident occurred.
While initial online reports suggested the victims were assaulted by armed police officers, the footage captured a heated verbal altercation and physical struggle between the siblings and armed men. In the video, the young woman alleged that one of the armed men inflicted an injury on her lip.
However, in an official statement, the command’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Henry Okoye, clarified that the armed individuals in the video are not police officers. Instead, they have been identified as personnel belonging to the Imo State Vigilante Organization.
Okoye confirmed that the suspects, identified as Ejiogu Nchekwube and Caleb Onyebuchi, have been arrested and are currently detained at the Okigwe Divisional Police Headquarters while investigations continue.
He said the State Commissioner of Police, CP Audu Garba Bosso, is committed to professionalism, accountability, and respect for the rights of members of the public. He assured that anyone found culpable will face appropriate action in accordance with the law.
