Immigration Alerts On Fake Passport Platforms
The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has issued a strong warning to the public, declaring that any alternative platforms offering passport application services are fraudulent and should be avoided.
In a statement shared on its official X (formerly Twitter) handle on Monday, the Service dismissed recent online claims about its passport application and payment system as false, misleading, and capable of causing public confusion.
It reaffirmed that its digital passport process remains secure, transparent, and strictly operated through its government-approved portal.
According to the NIS, its official website is the only authorised channel for all passport applications and payments, both for Nigerians residing in the country and those in the diaspora.
The agency also firmly rejected claims linking its payment system to any religious organisation or private entity. It stressed that at no time has it authorised any group or individual to act as an intermediary or to receive payments on its behalf.
Addressing the specific allegation circulating online, the Service described it as entirely baseless, noting that claims suggesting the involvement of a religious organisation in its payment process do not reflect its structure or operational integrity.
The NIS disclosed that it has commenced an investigation into the source of the misinformation and warned that those found responsible will face appropriate sanctions.
It further advised the public to rely solely on official communication channels and to refrain from engaging with unofficial links or third-party agents when applying for passports.
