A moment of debate in the Senate drew attention after Senator Abdul Ahmed Ningi of Bauchi Central argued that every Nigerian deserves equal attention and fair treatment, regardless of where they come from.

While speaking during plenary, Senator Ningi cited Sections 2 and 3 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), stressing that Nigeria is one indivisible federation made up of 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory. According to him, the Senate should ensure that all citizens are treated fairly without discrimination.

The senator made the remarks after the Senate adopted a resolution relating to financial support for victims of a tragic incident in Oyo State. He argued that similar concern should also be extended to security personnel and other Nigerians who have lost their lives in different parts of the country.

Ningi suggested that the Senate should compile a comprehensive record of security personnel who died while serving the nation so that they could receive equal recognition and support. He maintained that every Nigerian deserves the same level of attention from the country’s highest legislative chamber.

Following his submission, the Senate proceeded with reports from the Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions. Among the cases considered was the petition of a JAMB candidate whose withheld examination result was eventually released, allowing the student to secure admission into a university. The committee also reported that an individual who had mistakenly paid over ₦17 million to the FCT Internal Revenue Service was refunded after the Senate’s intervention.
