I’ll Be President After 2027 – Sowore Reacts Following DSS Suspension of Case

The African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has declared that he will emerge as Nigeria’s President after the 2027 general election, following the decision by the Department of State Services (DSS) to suspend the cybercrime case against him.

Sowore made the declaration while reacting to the reported directive by the DSS to its private counsel, Akinolu Kehinde, SAN, to commence moves to halt proceedings in the case until after the 2027 presidential election.

The DSS decision reportedly followed a meeting involving its Director-General, Tosin Ajayi, Kehinde and senior officials of the agency’s Legal Directorate on August 20.

According to a source familiar with the matter, Ajayi directed the lawyers to seek a temporary suspension of the case to enable Sowore, who is expected to contest the January 16, 2027 presidential election, participate fully in the electoral process without being hindered by court proceedings.

Reacting in a statement posted on his social media handles on Sunday, Sowore said the suspension would not prevent him from pursuing his political ambition, insisting that the Tinubu administration and those behind the case would no longer be in power after the election.

“You won’t be taking my case anywhere after the 2027 election because both Bola Tinubu, on whose behalf you instituted these ridiculous charges, and Tosin Ajayi, the deeply insecure DG of the DSS who initiated these farcical cybercrime charges against me, will be gone after the election,” he said.

He added: “After the 2027 election, Sowore will be the President of Nigeria. No going back!”

Sowore accused the government of using state institutions to persecute political opponents, vowing to end what he described as the weaponisation of public institutions if elected.

“The political persecution will end, the abuse of state institutions will end, and those who weaponized public institutions against political opponents will have to answer for their actions,” he said.

The AAC candidate also described the DSS decision as a victory in his continued confrontation with the security agency.

In another post, Sowore said the agency had been “forced to eat humble pie,” maintaining that he had consistently rejected attempts to intimidate him through legal proceedings.

“We told them from day one that this was an exercise in futility. We have fought too many of these battles to be intimidated now and we have prevailed again and again,” he said.

He further demanded that the DSS withdraw the charge, apologise for what he described as an abuse of power, and return his seized electronic devices.

“The DSS must immediately withdraw this useless charge, apologize to our people for this abuse of power, return all my phones and electronic devices, and pay the N3 million in fines imposed against it by the courts,” Sowore said.

He also demanded the return of phones and a drone allegedly seized from his assistant, Zainab Sodiq.

The DSS is expected to formally inform the Federal High Court of its decision when the court resumes on September 14, 2026, after the annual judicial vacation.

The reported suspension would give Sowore time to participate in the presidential campaign ahead of the 2027 election, while the case is expected to resume after the poll.
