“If your boyfriend is into fraud, hand him over to the police” – Lady advises women

A Nigerian woman has generated widespread debate on social media after advising women to report their boyfriends to the police if they discover they are involved in internet fraud or any other criminal activity.

The woman made the remarks in a video that has been widely circulated on X (formerly Twitter) and other social media platforms, where she urged women not to shield partners engaged in illegal activities simply because of their romantic relationships.

According to her, anyone who discovers that a partner is involved in fraud should carefully document the evidence before notifying law enforcement authorities.

“If you find out that your boyfriend is doing fraud, any kind of fraud, just take your time and gather your evidence. Gather strong evidence. Check his phone and everything you need to check,” she said in the video.

She further advised women to take the evidence to the nearest police station, make a formal statement, and cooperate with security agencies to ensure the suspect is investigated and, if necessary, prosecuted.

The woman argued that helping a partner evade justice only encourages criminal behaviour and ultimately harms society.

“Go to the nearest police station, write a statement, report the case and arrange for his arrest. When he comes back from the police station, let him start frying akara and doing kuli-kuli. He’s not better than people doing that business. That business is very profitable and befitting for him,” she added.

Her comments have since sparked mixed reactions across social media, with many users applauding her stance and arguing that no one should protect a loved one involved in criminal activities. Supporters maintained that fraud has damaged Nigeria’s reputation internationally and that anyone found engaging in such acts should face the consequences of the law.

Others, however, disagreed with her position, suggesting that a partner who discovers such behaviour should first encourage the individual to abandon crime and embrace legitimate means of earning a living rather than immediately involving the police.

The viral video has reignited conversations about loyalty in relationships, personal responsibility, and the ethical dilemma of whether people should report family members or romantic partners who engage in criminal activities.

It has also renewed discussions about the need to promote honest entrepreneurship and lawful sources of income, with many social media users emphasizing that small businesses and legitimate trades can provide sustainable livelihoods without exposing individuals to the legal and social consequences associated with fraud.
