I Won’t Reveals How I’ll Deliver 10,000MW, Tackle Insecurity In Public— Peter Obi Tells Nigerians

The presidential candidate of Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has declared that he won’t publicly disclose detailed plans on how he would address Nigeria’s electricity and security challenges if elected president in 2027.

Obi made the remarks during a recent podcast interview with broadcaster Rufai Oseni, where he asked Nigerians to instead judge him by his track record in office.

During the discussion, Oseni challenged Obi over his criticisms of Bola Tinubu’s administration.

Responding to questions about his pledge to raise electricity generation to at least 10,000 megawatts within four years, Obi maintained that he was under no obligation to reveal the specifics of his strategy.

“I have said, and I repeat, that in four years, we will generate, transmit and distribute at least 10,000 megawatts of electricity,” Obi said.

When Oseni asked him for a breakdown of how he intended to achieve the target, Obi replied: “No, no, no, I’m not going to tell you how. It is not for you to know how.”

The former Anambra governor argued that voters should focus on the credibility of the individual making the promise rather than demand technical explanations.

“It is for you to look at the man who is saying this. Go and check political promises all over the world. You are going to look at who is saying this,” he said.

Obi contrasted his position with President Tinubu’s campaign promises, claiming the current administration had failed to improve Nigeria’s power generation capacity despite making commitments before the 2023 election.

According to him, no new power plants have been commissioned since 2015, making recent promises of significant electricity expansion unrealistic.

“Somebody just said, if I don’t give you power, don’t vote for me. He didn’t even add one megawatt,” Obi said.

He further cited developments in countries such as Indonesia, India and Egypt, which he said had significantly expanded their electricity generation capacities over the past decade.

“If you compare countries like Indonesia, between 2015 and 2025, Indonesia added 70,000 megawatts of electricity. India, within the same period, added 171,000 megawatts. Egypt, within 2015 and 2021, added 28,000,” Obi stated.

The former Labour Party presidential candidate said he had personally visited power facilities in those countries and understood the policies that enabled their success.

“I know what I’m talking about. What those countries do is not rocket science,” he said.

However, when Oseni again demanded specific details of how he would replicate such achievements in Nigeria, Obi remained adamant.

“My commitment is I will deliver it,” he said.

Asked what specific measures he would implement as commander-in-chief to address insecurity, Obi again declined to provide operational details.

Obi pointed to his tenure as governor of Anambra State, arguing that his record demonstrated his ability to tackle criminality.

“I fought criminality in Anambra State. Go and ask people. Head on. You must show commitment,” he said.

When challenged on whether commitment alone was enough to solve Nigeria’s security challenges, Obi maintained that leadership resolve was the key factor.

“Commitment solves the problem of everything,” he said.
