I Was Owing My Supplier N75,000 And I Was So Desperate To Pay Him That I Agreed To Robbery Ex-convict

According to a video on Nevon HQ, a man who spent fifteen years in Nigerian prisons including five years on death row has traced the root of his downfall to a debt of seventy-five thousand naira that he owed a goods supplier, saying the desperation to settle the debt pushed him into agreeing to participate in an armed robbery.

Olumuyiwa Ayodeji Adedeji made the admission during a candid interview on the Fire City Podcast on the Nevon HQ platform, hosted by Oseni Rufai.

Ayodeji, who was a student at the then University of Ado Ekiti, had been running a mobile footwear business in addition to a videography and projector installation side career.

After a friend borrowed his car without permission, had an accident with it, and damaged the vehicle, his business came to a halt. The church contract for a media studio that had been another source of income was also suspended indefinitely.

With mounting bills, no steady income, and a creditor calling repeatedly, he found himself at his lowest point when former colleagues from his days in political thuggery approached him with a proposition.

In his words, Olumuyiwa Ayodeji said, “The guy that used to give me the goods I was selling, I was owing the guy 75,000 naira there at then 2010. And the guy has been calling me calling me and I’m a kind of person when I’m indebted to someone I would not have peace of mind.

“Whenever I sees the guy he’s calling he would be calling me often and often and so, I was looking for every means to pay the guy so that I can rest. I know that I said, okay, I’m ready to even do anything so that I can get this guy’s money and let him get out of my back,” he said.

Ayodeji noted that despite initial hesitation and reminders to his colleagues about the blood oath they had all sworn prohibiting robbery, he eventually gave in when they dismissed the oath as irrelevant.

The group carried out a robbery using a vehicle dealership as a target, posing as buyers interested in an Infiniti Jeep for a test drive before pulling a gun on the dealer’s manager.

The robbery was successful, but Ayodeji was the only member of the group arrested. His two accomplices escaped and were never prosecuted.
