“I might get dragged” — Lady expresses disappointment after someone based in US who promised her “big money” sent ₦15k

A Nigerian woman’s post on X has sparked widespread debate after she expressed disappointment over receiving ₦15,000 from a person living in the United States who had earlier promised to send her what was described as “big money.”

The woman explained that she had not requested financial assistance but felt the amount did not match the expectations created by the promise.

Her comments quickly attracted mixed reactions from social media users, with many divided over whether her feelings were justified.

The post that triggered the debate

The woman first hinted at the experience by writing, “If I say this thing, I might get dragged.”

She later explained her position, saying, “I promise I know it’s not easy anywhere and I’m very grateful for anything that comes as a gift, but 15k from someone that lives in the US and promised you ‘big money’ especially when you didn’t ask feels somehow.”

Her remarks ignited conversations about expectations, gratitude, and the realities of living abroad.

Social media users share differing opinions

Many commenters argued that the amount should still be appreciated regardless of where the sender lives.

Orekoya Samuel wrote, “You really need to be in a position where you are constantly giving out your hard earned money to understand these things…no matter how much anyone explains, you might not get it until you find yourself in same position.”

SomtoMichael added, “People gift people 1$ in that same US, sha just be grateful, lot of people no get hope even hand to receive lol.”

TobiDeolu also defended the sender, writing, “That could be his one hour wage! Appreciate it and move on! If it is too embarrassing for you, then tell him straightforward that you don’t want his money again, and you can return it back!”

Another user, Odd Independence, said, “Watching American videos where someone is giving back their community has helped me a lot because you will see a grown ass man taking $5 from a stranger and be super thankful and grateful for that little amount but here in Nigeria we don’t regard kindness if it’s not huge.”

Mannie echoed a similar view, stating, “If you think another person is selfish with their money, make your own money so that you can start doing giveaway with it.
