I Endured Adultery For 9 Yrs, He Married A Woman From His Tribe And They Expected Me To Stay -Mibere

Media entrepreneur and journalist Best Mbiere has spoken publicly after a Benin High Court dissolved her 12-year marriage to Michael Mbiere, describing the end of the union as painful but necessary.

In a video shared by ITV, Mbiere spoke to journalists after the judgment, saying she never imagined her marriage would end in divorce and insisted that she had made every effort to keep her family together.

She stated that for years she endured adultery while living under the same roof with her husband. According to her, he later married another woman from his ethnic group and had two children with her. At the same time, relatives allegedly expected her to remain in the marriage despite the situation.

Mbiere also claimed that for two years they no longer shared meals or slept in the same room, yet she continued trying to preserve the relationship.

She said the experience damaged her reputation over the past three years and expressed relief that the court process had given her an opportunity to clear her name.

According to her, the decision to seek legal redress came after she concluded that the marriage could no longer continue under the circumstances she faced.

The court ruled that the marriage had broken down beyond repair. It also granted custody of the couple’s three children to Best Mbiere and ordered Michael Mbiere to refund ₦21.5 million allegedly spent in settling debts connected to fraud allegations from his former workplace.

In her words, “I endured adultery for over 9 years under the same roof we were, he got married to somebody from his tribe and everybody expected me to stay.”
