‘I don’t want to trend for a week’ – Jide Awobona after Mo Bimpe video

By Sherifat Kazeem

Nollywood actor Jide Awobona’s brief interaction with actress Mo Bimpe and her husband, Lateef Adedimeji, at a movie premiere in Lagos has sparked fresh reactions online.

The moment occurred at the premiere of Starlomo, a new film by skit maker and actor Kamo State, which attracted several personalities from the Nigerian film industry.

A video from the event showed Awobona greeting Mo Bimpe and her husband. While his interaction with Bimpe was brief, he spent more time with Lateef.

In the clip, Jide Awobona was heard telling Lateef that he did not want to “trend for a week”, while Lateef responded that he “had time for that.”

The exchange has drawn reactions from social media users, with many linking it to the earlier viral video involving Awobona and Bimpe that generated online discussions.

The earlier video, recorded at the premiere of A Mama Deola Wedding Story on September 2, showed Bimpe seated between her husband and Jide Awobona, resting her head on Awobona’s shoulder while showing him something on her phone.

The clip sparked reactions from some social media users, with some questioning the interaction, while others described the reactions as an overinterpretation of a normal exchange between colleagues.

Bimpe later responded to the criticism on September 7 through an Instagram post where she spoke about trust, friendship and confidence in marriage.

“Not every marriage is built on fear, insecurity, and constant monitoring. Some marriages are built on trust, friendship, respect, and confidence,” she said.

Lateef also shared a post that many followers linked to the conversation, although he did not directly mention the controversy.

“Guard your mental space from social media noise, own your focus, and stay undefeated,” he wrote.
