‘I back politicians for money’- Actress Ronke Oshodi-Oke

Nollywood actress Ronke Ojo, popularly known as Ronke Oshodi-Oke, has warned Nigerians against attacking her if she is seen supporting a politician, saying she would be doing it to earn a living.

Oshodi-Oke made the declaration during an interview with African A-List uploaded to YouTube on Sunday.

Speaking about politics and whether she would accept money to endorse a politician, the actress described Nigeria’s political system as “dirty” and declined to discuss it extensively.

She stressed that her decision to associate with a politician should not influence anyone’s choice at the polls.

“Nigeria politics is dirt, so I do not want to talk about it. I am not saying you should not vote for whoever you want to vote for,” she said.

Asked directly whether she would accept money to support or endorse a political figure, Oshodi-Oke said Nigerians should understand that she needed to put food on the table.

“If you see me behind any politician, anybody, just see it as if she is looking for something to put food on the table.

“Just leave, let her eat. Do not insult or drag me,” she said.

The actress also opened up about her strained relationship with fellow Nollywood star Sotayo Gaga, revealing that they had not spoken for about five or six years.

Oshodi-Oke said they were not enemies but stopped communicating after a disagreement.

She disclosed that despite their estrangement, Sotayo sent her ₦150,000 after learning that she was ill.

“We hadn’t spoken in a long time. Not that we were at war; we just had a little disagreement.

“The last time we spoke was five or six years ago. But when she heard I was sick, she sent me ₦150,000. And since then, we haven’t spoken.

“If we meet at a party, we walk past each other without even a greeting,” she said.

Ronke Oshodi-Oke also discussed her health challenges, marriage struggles, motherhood and experiences in the Nigerian film industry.

She said the difficult period surrounding her illness changed her outlook on life and relationships.

The actress also revealed that her health struggles influenced her decision to join the Celestial Church of Christ.

She, however, maintained that her religious choice did not mean she condemned people who belonged to other faiths.

Oshodi-Oke further reflected on her Nollywood journey and the challenges of balancing her acting career with family responsibilities and personal difficulties.
