How Gov. Diri Is Telling Bayelsa’s Story Through Transformative Development

In recent months, the Prosperity Administration of Governor has unveiled a series of major infrastructure projects across the three senatorial districts of , marking what many describe as a new phase in the state’s development trajectory.

The projects were commissioned in phases, beginning with a visit by President and followed by former Vice President .

The projects span key sectors including power generation, healthcare and road infrastructure, with residents turning out in large numbers to welcome the dignitaries and celebrate the developments.

During his visit, President Tinubu commissioned the Bayelsa State Independent Power Project, a 60-megawatt gas turbine facility, alongside the newly constructed dual-carriage New Yenagoa-LNG Road, the 630-metre Angiama-Oporoma Bridge and the 42-kilometre Sagbama–Ekeremor Road.

The President commended Governor Diri for what he described as purposeful leadership and transformative governance.

“You’ve done a great job. I’ve commissioned some very transformative projects — bridges linking communities, dual carriageways creating opportunities, jobs and hope for our nation,” Tinubu stated.

Responding, Governor Diri credited some of the achievements to reforms introduced by the Federal Government, particularly in the power sector, which he said enabled the state to establish an independent power supply system.

The commissioning events were attended by several high-profile political figures, including Senate President , Minister of State for Petroleum , Governor , Governor , Governor and Governor , among others.

Shortly after the presidential visit, former Vice President Osinbajo continued the second phase of project inaugurations.

Osinbajo, who had performed the groundbreaking ceremony for the Angiama-Oporoma Bridge in February 2022, returned to inaugurate the completed bridge and the Oporoma Referral Hospital.

The former vice president reportedly stopped during the drive across the bridge to physically inspect the structure, describing the development as remarkable considering the once difficult terrain.

According to the Bayelsa State Government, the bridge project had remained unrealised for over 60 years, while the Oporoma Referral Hospital project dates back to 1973.

Osinbajo also commissioned the Agbura-Oxbow Lake Road in Yenagoa Local Government Area and praised Governor Diri’s vision and foresight.

He said Bayelsans and Nigerians had witnessed purposeful leadership in the state, adding that “God did not make a wrong choice” in Diri.

Governor Diri, in his remarks, reiterated his administration’s commitment to unity, reconciliation and development, promising additional infrastructure including the road linking Osokama to the referral hospital, fencing of the facility and connection of the area to the state-owned gas-powered electricity project.

With more projects reportedly nearing completion, stakeholders within and outside the state say the Diri administration has significantly impacted infrastructure, healthcare, security and human capital development, positioning Bayelsa for greater economic and social opportunities.
