“He told my father to sleep on the couch” — Wife walks out of barely one year marriage

A woman has reportedly ended her marriage of barely a year after a domestic disagreement over sleeping arrangements for visiting relatives escalated into a major conflict between her and her husband in what has since gone viral on social media.

Father’s visit sparks tension

The incident centres on a visiting father who travelled from the village for a medical appointment and was initially given the couple’s couch due to lack of an extra mattress, after a similar 2023 report of domestic accommodation disputes resurfaced.

Two days later, the husband reportedly purchased a new mattress for a visiting friend’s wife attending a three-day course in the city, which sparked disagreement when the wife insisted her father should move from the couch to the new mattress.

Mattress purchase deepens rift

According to the woman, she said: “My father came from the village sick and needed comfort, but my husband said there was no mattress for him. Two days later, he bought one for another woman visiting for a course. I told him my father should use it, but he told me to use my money to buy another one, knowing I was not working at the time.”

The husband defended his action, saying: “I did not disrespect her father. I managed the situation based on urgency. My friend’s wife was coming for a course and needed rest, so I bought a mattress. I told my wife to contribute if she wanted something for her dad, but she was not earning then, and we had to prioritise what we could afford.”
