“Ghana Police, Arrest This Man” — Motorist Demands Action As Colleague Motorist Poses Like Gov’t Worker, Miuses Siren To Get Way In Traffic 

A frustrated motorist has called on the Ghana Police Service to take action against the driver of a black Land Cruiser V8 spotted allegedly using a siren in traffic while bearing what he describes as an unusually customised number plate.

“Can you imagine this nonsense? Which government car has a customized number plate like this? And he is using the siren anyhow in traffic. Ghana Police, you have to arrest this man,” the man said, visibly irritated by what he witnessed on the road.

His frustration touches on a recurring concern among some Ghanaian road users, the unauthorised use of sirens by private or non-designated vehicles seeking to bypass traffic congestion.

Sirens are typically reserved for emergency and security services, or officially sanctioned convoys, precisely because indiscriminate use undermines their purpose and can create confusion, or even danger, for other motorists attempting to give way under the assumption of a genuine emergency.

The vehicle’s number plate, which caught the attention of the man recording the footage, added further suspicion that the driver may not have had legitimate grounds for using a siren while manoeuvring through traffic.

Unauthorised siren use has repeatedly drawn public criticism in Ghana, particularly involving luxury vehicles perceived to be exploiting the intimidation factor of sirens to force other road users aside.

It is not yet clear whether police have identified or taken any action against the driver involved in this particular incident.
