Ganduje’s Son Dumps APC Camp, Picks NDC Reps Form After Meeting Kwankwaso
Abdulaziz Umar Ganduje, the eldest son of former All Progressives Congress national chairman Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has reportedly obtained a nomination form to contest for a seat in the House of Representatives under the platform of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Abdulaziz is seeking to represent the Dawakin Tofa/Tofa/Rimin Gado Federal Constituency in Kano State ahead of the next general election.
His decision has generated political reactions, especially because of his long-standing association with the Kwankwasiyya political movement despite his father’s influential role within the APC over the years.
According to reports, Abdulaziz has remained a loyal supporter and ally of the Kwankwasiyya movement led by former Kano State governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
A viral video circulating online reportedly captured Abdulaziz in a private discussion with Kwankwaso shortly after obtaining the nomination form.
During the meeting, he was said to have briefed the former governor on his political ambition and preparations for the upcoming contest.
The development has again drawn attention to the long-standing political rivalry between Ganduje and Kwankwaso, two dominant figures in Kano politics whose relationship deteriorated years after they once worked closely together.
Observers note that Abdulaziz has consistently maintained political distance from his father’s camp and has openly identified with the Kwankwasiyya movement for several years.
Interestingly, Abdulaziz is now contesting for the same federal constituency seat his brother, Umar Abdullahi Ganduje, contested under the APC during the 2023 general election.
Despite the political influence of Abdullahi Ganduje, who was governor of Kano State at the time, Umar reportedly lost the election to a candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).
The latest development is expected to further reshape political alignments in Kano as preparations gradually intensify ahead of the next election cycle.
