Free solar training: FG opens applications, sets September 18 deadline

The Federal Government has opened applications for a free Solar Photovoltaic Installation Training programme for Nigerians interested in renewable energy.

The programme is being organised in partnership with Siemens Energy and the German development agency, GIZ.

It is part of the Siemens Energy Education and Development project, known as SEED. The programme is supported by the Nigerian Energy Support Programme, which is funded by the European Union and the German Government and implemented by GIZ.

According to a notice by FGN Power Company, the training will include classroom lessons, practical sessions, technical site visits and competency assessments.

Participants who successfully complete the programme will receive certification from the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria.

The programme is open to people with practical experience as well as those without formal education or previous experience in solar installation.

Recent graduates with National Diploma, Higher National Diploma or undergraduate qualifications are also encouraged to apply. Young professionals in related fields and people interested in building careers in renewable energy can also apply.

However, applicants must be available to attend the three week training physically.

How to apply

Interested applicants must complete the online Expression of Interest form before 4pm on Friday, September 18, 2026.

Applicants will be required to provide their full name, gender, phone number, email address and preferred training location.

They will also need to confirm whether they can attend the three week training physically.

Applicants must provide details of their educational and professional background, including their highest level of education, employment status, work experience and sector of employment.

Those with formal educational qualifications will be required to upload their latest CV, degree certificates and other relevant certificates.

The training will take place at centres in Lagos and Abeokuta, Ogun State. Each training session will last three weeks and will be held onsite.

The organisers said the training and certification are completely free. Meals will also be provided on training days.

However, participants will be responsible for their own accommodation and transportation.
