Florida mom admits trying to cause her autistic sons to overdose so they could “go to heaven”

A 68-year-old Florida woman accused of attempting to kill her two adult sons with autism by giving them excessive amounts of prescription medication allegedly told police she wanted to end their suffering and send them to heaven, according to an arrest warrant.

Marilyn Therrell has been charged with two counts of attempted murder and two counts of abuse of a disabled adult following the alleged incident at her home in Kissimmee, Florida.

According to police documents obtained by TMZ, Therrell allegedly admitted giving her sons significantly higher doses of medication than prescribed because she wanted to free them from what she described as their “disabilities and suffering.” Investigators said Therrell told officers she ground up multiple Valium and Clonidine pills and administered them in quantities she believed would be fatal.

Police were called to Therrell’s home on the morning of September 8 after she contacted authorities to report an overdose. Deputies who arrived at the property reportedly found Therrell and her two sons, aged 30 and 32, showing symptoms consistent with an overdose. According to the arrest documents, officers discovered several bottles of prescription medication at the property. Police said none of the medication was prescribed to Therrell and later seized a number of the drugs as evidence.

Investigators also said they found a written note in which Therrell claimed she had contacted hundreds of people seeking help because she felt “weak.” The note reportedly thanked the state of Florida, President Donald Trump and Congress and indicated that Therrell wanted authorities to find it to draw attention to autism treatment. Police also reported finding what they described as a “shrine” dedicated to Therrell’s late husband, who had died nearly a year earlier.

Therrell was subsequently arrested and charged with two counts each of attempted murder and abuse of a disabled adult. Her bond was set at $50,000. The allegations against Therrell have not been proven in court, and the charges represent accusations at this stage.

Her two sons are expected to survive, according to the report. After their release from hospital, they are expected to be placed under the care of Adult Protective Services within the Florida Department of Children and Families.
