Florence Ajimobi Assumes Office as Nigeria’s Ambassador to Austria, Permanent Representative to International Organisations in Vienna

Mrs. Florence Ajimobi, the widow of the late former Abiola Ajimobi, has officially assumed duty as Nigeria’s Ambassador and Permanent Representative to Austria and the international organisations based in Vienna.

Naijapunchnews reports that Florence Ajimobi announced her arrival in the Austrian capital through a post shared on her Facebook page on Friday, expressing gratitude for the warm reception she received upon landing.

According to the former Oyo State First Lady, she was welcomed at the VIP Wing of Vienna International Airport by the Chargé d’Affaires ad interim of the Embassy and Permanent Mission, Muyiwa Onifade, alongside home-based officers, local staff of the mission, and prominent members of the Nigerian community in Austria.

She disclosed that the reception was attended by representatives of several Nigerian organisations in Austria, including the Oduduwa Group, the Igbo Cultural Group, the Nigeria-Austria Friendship Group, the Nigerians in Diaspora Organisation (NIDO), as well as Nigerian students resident in the European country.

Expressing appreciation for the gesture, Florence Ajimobi said she was honoured by the warm welcome and pledged to work towards deepening the longstanding relationship between Nigeria and Austria while strengthening cooperation with the international organisations headquartered in Vienna.

She wrote:

“Today, I arrived in Vienna to assume duty as the Ambassador and Permanent Representative of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to Austria and the International Organisations in Vienna.

“I was warmly received at the VIP Wing of Vienna International Airport by the Chargé d’Affaires a.i. of the Embassy and Permanent Mission, Mr. Muyiwa Onifade, accompanied by Home-Based Officers, Local Staff, and distinguished leaders of the Nigerian community in Austria, including representatives of the Oduduwa Group, Igbo Cultural Group, Nigeria-Austria Friendship Group, Nigerians in Diaspora Organisation (NIDO), and Nigerian Students in Austria.

“I am deeply grateful for this heartfelt welcome and look forward to strengthening the bonds of friendship and cooperation between Nigeria and Austria.”

Florence Ajimobi’s assumption of office follows her appointment by President Bola Tinubu as part of a fresh diplomatic deployment aimed at reinforcing Nigeria’s engagement with key foreign partners and international institutions.

It will be recalled that in November 2025, President Tinubu transmitted the names of 32 ambassadorial nominees to the National Assembly for confirmation. The list comprised 17 non-career ambassadors and 15 career diplomats, who were selected for postings to strategic countries and international organisations considered vital to Nigeria’s foreign policy and diplomatic interests.
