FIFA Unveils Best XI of 2026 World Cup as Spain, France, Argentina Stars Dominate Team of the Tournament

FIFA has officially unveiled its Best XI of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, recognizing the standout performers who lit up the tournament with exceptional displays from start to finish.

The 2026 World Cup, jointly hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico, concluded with Spain emerging as world champions after edging defending champions Argentina 1-0 in a thrilling final. The victory earned La Roja their second FIFA World Cup title and capped off an impressive campaign.

Despite lifting the trophy, Spain had only three representatives in FIFA’s Team of the Tournament. Midfield maestro Rodri, right-back Pedro Porro and left-back Marc Cucurella were selected after playing crucial roles in Spain’s triumphant run.

Rodri once again demonstrated why he is regarded as one of the finest midfielders in world football, dictating play and providing stability throughout the tournament. Porro and Cucurella also received recognition for their consistency and defensive contributions as Spain navigated a challenging route to the title.

Argentina, who narrowly missed out on defending the crown they won in 2022, had two players included in the prestigious lineup.

Captain Lionel Messi, who inspired Argentina’s journey to the final, earned another Team of the Tournament selection after delivering several memorable performances. He was joined by defender Lisandro Martínez, whose solid displays at the heart of Argentina’s defence helped the Albiceleste reach another World Cup final.

France produced the highest number of players in the Best XI despite their semi-final exit at the hands of eventual champions Spain.

Captain Kylian Mbappé was included after another outstanding World Cup campaign that reinforced his reputation as one of the world’s most dangerous forwards. Defender Dayot Upamecano also made the team following a series of commanding defensive performances, while Michael Olise earned recognition for his creativity and attacking contributions.

Norway striker Erling Haaland was selected as the team’s central forward after enjoying an outstanding tournament. The prolific Manchester City star consistently troubled opposition defences and finished among the competition’s top attacking performers.

One of the biggest surprises in the selection was the inclusion of Cape Verde goalkeeper Vozinha. The experienced shot-stopper won widespread praise for his heroic displays as Cape Verde exceeded expectations and impressed football fans across the globe.

England midfielder Jude Bellingham was the only English player to make FIFA’s Best XI. The Real Madrid star produced several influential performances and was recognised for his leadership, composure and quality in midfield despite England falling short of the final.

The Team of the Tournament reflects the quality displayed by players from the competition’s top-performing nations while also rewarding outstanding individuals from teams that exceeded expectations.
