FG launches freeTV, offers over 100 subscription-free digital channels

The Federal Government has launched FreeTV, a national digital television platform designed to provide Nigerians with access to more than 100 television channels without monthly subscription fees.

The new platform aims to expand access to quality digital broadcasting services across the country, allowing households to enjoy a wide range of news, entertainment, sports, educational and cultural content at no recurring cost.

According to the government, FreeTV is part of efforts to deepen digital inclusion, enhance access to information and accelerate Nigeria’s transition to digital broadcasting. The platform is expected to improve television accessibility, particularly for low-income households and underserved communities.

Officials said the initiative will also create opportunities for local content producers and broadcasters by providing a wider platform for the distribution of Nigerian programming.

With the launch of FreeTV, viewers equipped with compatible digital television sets or decoders will be able to access the channels free of charge after the initial setup, eliminating the need for monthly subscription payments.
