FG assures parents, tightens security as Unity Colleges resume Monday

The Federal Government has assured parents, guardians, students and other stakeholders that all Federal Unity Colleges across the country will resume academic activities on Monday, September 14, 2026, as scheduled.

The Federal Ministry of Education gave the assurance in a press release dated September 11, 2026, signed by its Director of Press and Public Relations, Boriowo Folasade.

The ministry said the necessary arrangements had been put in place to support a safe, smooth and orderly commencement of the new academic session in the Federal Unity Colleges nationwide.

The Minister of Education, Dr Tunji Alausa, said the safety and wellbeing of students and staff remained central to the Federal Government’s commitment to providing a secure and conducive environment for teaching and learning.

Alausa explained that relevant security agencies had been duly informed of the resumption arrangements and were maintaining heightened vigilance around the Federal Unity Colleges and their immediate environments.

According to him, the coordinated security efforts were aimed at safeguarding students, staff and school communities as academic activities resume across the country.

The minister consequently urged parents and guardians to remain calm, rely on official information and proceed with preparations for their children and wards to return to their respective Federal Unity Colleges on Monday.

He also directed school authorities to maintain close coordination with relevant security agencies and other appropriate authorities to facilitate an orderly and secure resumption.

Alausa further called on students, parents, teachers, school administrators and other stakeholders to work together to maintain a peaceful, supportive and secure learning environment.

He stressed that the safety and wellbeing of learners remained a shared responsibility involving schools, families, security agencies and the wider community.

The ministry said it would continue to monitor developments and take necessary measures, in collaboration with relevant authorities, to ensure the smooth and safe resumption of academic activities in all Federal Unity Colleges.

It added that its commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s education system remained firm, with emphasis on ensuring that Nigerian children have access to quality education in a safe and conducive learning environment.

The ministry linked the commitment to the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, which it said recognises education and human capital development as essential to Nigeria’s sustainable growth and national development.

The Federal Ministry of Education therefore reiterated its assurance to students, parents, guardians, teachers and the general public that arrangements were in place to support a safe, peaceful and successful resumption in Federal Unity Colleges nationwide.
