FG Allocates N500bn Emergency Fund to Tackle Rising Insecurity Across Nigeria

The Federal Government has approved a major deduction of about N500 billion from the Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) revenue for May 2026 to fund an emergency national security intervention aimed at tackling banditry, kidnapping, and other security challenges across the country.

The funds were deducted before revenue was shared among the Federal Government, states, and local government councils, according to officials familiar with the development.

Documents from the FAAC meeting showed that the security intervention fund formed a significant part of total deductions made during the monthly allocation process.

In addition to the security allocation, about N250 billion was set aside for a Military Intervention Fund, while N252 billion was allocated to an Infrastructure Development Fund for states. Another N450 billion was transferred to the Non-Oil Excess Revenue Account.

Altogether, these deductions amounted to approximately N952 billion, significantly reducing the final distributable revenue for the month.

After all statutory deductions, the remaining distributable revenue for May stood at N2.3 trillion. This was shared among the three tiers of government, with the Federal Government receiving N818.68 billion, states receiving N759.14 billion, and local government councils getting N534.28 billion. Oil-producing states also received N188.13 billion as 13 per cent derivation.
