FAKE! PM NEWS never published ‘Peter Obi Cured of Madness’ story

PM NEWS has dismissed as fake a newspaper front page currently circulating on social media purporting to show a 2006 edition of the newspaper with a lead story about former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi.

The purported front page, which has been widely shared online, is not an authentic publication of PM NEWS.

The image has been digitally altered. The photograph of the actual subject of the original story was replaced with a photograph of Peter Obi, while the original name on the newspaper’s rider was also replaced with Peter Obi’s name.

Most importantly, PM NEWS never published the purported story titled “How I Was Cured of Madness – Peter Obi, Anambra’s Gov Gives Testimony in Church”.

The publication being circulated should therefore not be attributed to PM NEWS under any circumstance.

The manipulation appears designed to make the fabricated material look like an authentic historical edition of the newspaper. The use of the PM NEWS masthead, date and page design does not make the altered material genuine.

We urge members of the public, journalists, media organisations and social media users to disregard the fabricated image and refrain from presenting it as a genuine PM NEWS publication.

PM NEWS stands by the authenticity of its published records and takes exception to the deliberate alteration of its archival material and the false attribution of fabricated content to the newspaper.

Any publication claiming that PM NEWS reported the purported Peter Obi story in that edition is false.
