El-Rufai Appears in Kaduna Court as Corruption Case Resumes

Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, on Monday appeared before the Federal High Court in Kaduna for the continuation of proceedings in a corruption case instituted against him by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).

El-Rufai arrived at the court premises at approximately 9:30 a.m. under tight security. He was accompanied by officials of the ICPC, as well as operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Nigeria Police Force, underscoring the high-profile nature of the proceedings.

The case centres on allegations of abuse of office, fraud, and other forms of financial misconduct allegedly linked to El-Rufai’s tenure as governor of Kaduna State. According to the prosecution, certain public funds were allegedly released for projects that were either not executed as approved or were improperly managed.

The anti-corruption agency maintains that its investigations uncovered irregularities in the handling of government resources, prompting the charges currently before the court.

However, El-Rufai has consistently denied all allegations levelled against him. The former governor insists that he acted within the law throughout his administration and has pledged to vigorously defend himself against the charges.

At Monday’s hearing, legal representatives for both the prosecution and the defence were expected to present arguments on pending applications and other procedural matters as the trial progresses.

The case has attracted significant public attention due to El-Rufai’s prominence in Nigerian politics and his influential role in national affairs. Political observers and supporters of both sides continue to closely monitor developments as the court moves forward with the proceedings.

The Federal High Court is expected to determine the merits of the allegations based on the evidence and arguments presented by both parties during the trial.
