EFCC hands over N3.9bn recovered funds to NNPC

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on Wednesday returned a total of N3,936,145,822 to the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited after successfully recovering funds tied to fraudulent activities.

According to a statement issued by the agency’s spokesman, Dele Oyewale, the handover took place at the EFCC headquarters in Abuja.

The Secretary to the Commission, Mohammed Hammajoda, presented the funds on behalf of the Executive Chairman, Ola Olukoyede.

During the brief ceremony, Hammajoda reiterated the Commission’s dedication to fighting economic and financial crimes.

He explained that the recovered money resulted from detailed investigations and professional efforts that exposed fraudulent dealings involving certain individuals within NNPC Ltd.

He emphasized that the EFCC remains resolute in serving Nigerians with courage and integrity, despite the inherent risks in its operations.

“The funds were recovered through diligent investigation and professional uncovering of fraudulent engagements by some actors in the NNPCL.

“On behalf of the Executive Chairman, we will continue to put ourselves on the line to serve over 220 million Nigerians.

“Along the line, many of our colleagues have paid the price, and others will still pay the price as we continue to do our work with courage and integrity. We will serve and continue to serve this country,” he said.

On behalf of NNPC Ltd., the Executive Vice President, Downstream, Mumuni Dagazau, received the funds and praised the EFCC for its role in the recovery.

Dagazau described the handover as evidence of effective institutional collaboration.

He added that the recovery aligns with ongoing efforts by NNPC to reform its systems and tackle operational challenges.

He also expressed confidence in continued cooperation with the EFCC, noting that the development highlights a shared commitment to transparency and accountability.
