Edo gov grants full scholarships to children of Brig. Gen. Braimah

Monday Okpebholo, Edo state governor has approved full educational scholarships for the three children the late Brigadier general Oseni Braimah, who was killed in a Boko Haram attack in Borno state.

The governor’s decision was announced in a statement issued in Benin by Patrick Ebojele, his chief press secretary on Thursday.

Braimah, an indigene of Warake in Owan East LGA of Edo state, was serving as Commander of the 29 joint task force brigade when he was killed alongside other soldiers during an attack on a military formation in Benisheikh on April 9.

According to the statement, the scholarship will cover the children’s education from their current level up to university.

Okpebholo said the gesture was in honour of the late officer’s sacrifice and to ensure his family receives meaningful support.

“Brigadier General Braimah paid the ultimate price in service to this country. It is only right that we stand by the family he left behind and ensure his children have uninterrupted access to education,” the governor said.

He added that the initiative was designed to secure the children’s future and recognise the service of fallen heroes.

“No child of an Edo hero should be denied the opportunity to succeed. This is about responsibility, honour, and a deliberate investment in the future,” he said.

The governor also urged other state governments and relevant stakeholders to adopt similar support measures for families of military personnel who die in active service.

The beneficiaries were identified as Farida, 18, Amir, 16, and Yasmeen, 12.
