Ebonyi North senate seat: Polycarp Nwite seeks to unseat Nwaebonyi

…Pledges integrity, humility and people-centered leadership

Polycarp Ogbonna Nwite Jnr. has officially declared his candidacy for the Ebonyi North Senatorial District seat under the Accord Party in the 2027 elections.

The Accord Party senatorial aspirant is the son of the late Senator Polycarp Ogbonna Nwite, former Nigerian Ambassador to Botswana and Presidential Aide to the late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua,

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, recently published his name as the Accord Party candidate for the district. He will be contesting against the incumbent Senator, Onyekachi Nwaebonyi.

In a statement issued in Abakaliki, the Ebonyi State capital, on Friday, Nwite said his decision to join the race is driven by “a renewed sense of purpose and a commitment to the development of our people,” and by a deep responsibility to honour and sustain the legacy of his late father — servant leadership and prioritizing the welfare of ordinary people at the grassroots.

“My father’s life was defined by dedication to public service, integrity, and the bridges he built across communities in service to the people of Ebonyi,” Nwite stated. “It is in that same spirit that I have returned to Nigeria to offer myself for service. My aspiration is not to merely inherit my father’s name, but to earn my own place through meaningful service, while upholding the values and principles he stood for.”

Senator Polycarp Ogbonna Nwite, a pro-democracy advocate and political ally of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, was widely respected for his commitment to grassroots development and for fostering unity across Ebonyi North. The Senatorial Aspirant noted that he returns with a clear vision to continue that work through humility, uncommon courage, and a genuine commitment to the welfare of constituents.

“As I begin this new chapter, I recognize that this responsibility is far greater than seeking political office,” he said. “It is about serving our people. I, therefore, humbly seek the guidance, counsel, goodwill, and support of our elders, stakeholders, and the good people of Ebonyi North as we work together to build on the foundation that has been laid.”

The Accord Party candidate disclosed that he is currently engaging with stakeholders across the five Local Government Areas of Ebonyi North Senatorial District. His focus areas include improved infrastructure, youth empowerment, education, healthcare delivery, and expanded economic opportunities.

He is also consulting his late father’s allies in Ebonyi State and across the country.

“My understanding of leadership is not about ostentation while our people continue to grapple with poverty. Leadership, by democratic ethos, must be about the people. We will redefine representation in Ebonyi North — make it people-centered, empathetic, and guided by emotional intelligence in both action and utterance,” Nwite added.
