Donald Trump ‘Throws A Tantrum’ Over Nobel Peace Prize, ‘Lies Again’ In Oval Office

President Donald Trump has renewed his complaints about not receiving the Nobel Peace Prize, once again claiming that he ended eight wars without receiving recognition for his efforts. Trump raised the issue during an Oval Office exchange about his administration’s latest attempt to negotiate an end to the war between Russia and Ukraine. However, his remarks quickly attracted criticism online, with some commenters questioning both his focus on the award and the accuracy of his claim.

Trump’s comments came as he discussed a new peace proposal being carried overseas by U.S. Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and the president’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner. “No, they’re bringing with them a proposal to end the war. Because I’ve ended eight wars. I hope you’re proud of me. I ended eight wars. I get no credit for it. I ended eight wars. Did I get the Nobel Prize? No,” Trump said.

The president did not explain how the new proposal would resolve the remaining disagreements between Russia and Ukraine. “We have an idea for peace,” Trump said separately. “I sent Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, two great negotiators. They’ve done a great job, and we sent them over to see whether or not we can get something done. And there may be a good chance that we’ll do it.”

Trump’s Ukraine Peace Efforts Have Yet To Produce A Deal

Witkoff and Kushner traveled to Moscow to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin before continuing to Kyiv for discussions with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

The latest diplomatic push comes after previous negotiations stalled and Western intelligence officials remain doubtful that Putin is interested in reaching a short-term agreement.

Fighting has also continued despite the renewed diplomacy. A Russian drone struck the headquarters of Ukraine’s security service in Kyiv on Friday, the same day Trump announced the envoys’ trip.

The conflict began with Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022 and remains unresolved. Although Trump campaigned on his ability to bring the war to an end, his administration has not yet secured a permanent ceasefire or comprehensive peace agreement.

The President’s ‘Eight Wars’ Claim Has Been Disputed

Trump has repeatedly claimed credit for resolving conflicts involving Israel and Iran, Israel and Hamas, India and Pakistan, Egypt and Ethiopia, Serbia and Kosovo, Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo, Armenia and Azerbaijan, and Thailand and Cambodia.

Independent reviews have found that the president played a significant role in some ceasefires and diplomatic agreements. However, describing all eight situations as wars that he permanently ended does not reflect the status of several disputes.

An Associated Press fact-check concluded that Trump’s eight-war claim was exaggerated. The outlet credited him with helping end the 12-day conflict between Israel and Iran and reported that his intervention played a role in securing a ceasefire between Thailand and Cambodia. U.S. involvement also contributed to ending fighting between India and Pakistan, although India disputed Trump’s description of Washington’s role.

Some Of Trump’s Claimed Peace Deals Remained Unresolved

Other cases were less definitive. Egypt and Ethiopia were experiencing heightened tensions rather than an active war. Serbia and Kosovo were also not at war during Trump’s second term.

Agreements involving Armenia and Azerbaijan and Rwanda and Congo represented diplomatic progress, but they did not immediately produce fully implemented or permanent settlements. Some of the ceasefires Trump counted also faced renewed fighting after he declared the conflicts resolved.

Trump’s latest remarks prompted several critics to mock his continued focus on the Nobel Peace Prize. “End eight wars?! On what planet?” one person asked in response to the claim, while another critic wrote, “Trump just threw a tantrum in the Oval Office about not winning a Nobel Peace prize, as he lies again about ‘ending 8 wars.’”

A separate commenter contrasted Trump’s Nobel complaint with other issues facing the country. “Groceries are through the roof. Diesel fuel is at an all-time high. Gas prices are soaring. A stupid war is raging on in Iran. Food recalls are through the roof. Measles are spreading around the country,” they listed. “But Trump is concerned with not winning a Nobel Peace Prize.”
