‘Don Jazzy never replied my 19 messages’ — Halima Abubakar

Nollywood actress Halima Abubakar has disclosed that music executive Don Jazzy failed to respond despite receiving more than 19 messages from her during one of the darkest periods of her life.

The actress, who battled a serious illness, said several colleagues she expected to support her neither visited nor sent anyone to check on her.

She claimed they “left her to die,” but credited God with saving her life.

Abubakar told Saturday Beats that she did not consider the conduct of her colleagues abandonment because they were never close friends.

“I didn’t say they abandoned me. We are not friends. You know how it is in an industry. When one person says one thing, every other person assumes that’s the truth,” she said.

According to her, some industry figures accepted an allegation made against her without contacting her for clarification.

She said she was instructed to submit a report but was later handed an indefinite suspension without action being taken on her submission.

“You didn’t visit me when I was sick, nothing. They didn’t send anybody. They just left me to die, but God said I will live,” she said.

The actress maintained that she no longer held grudges against those who stayed away during her illness.

“They don’t owe me anything, and I do not owe them anything. But I’m here. God has been wonderful,” she added.

Halima Abubakar said her experience exposed the character of several people around her, claiming many never expected her to survive.

“So many people didn’t expect me to survive, but I am here. I saw everything—everybody’s character and the judgment they passed,” she said.

She added that she had moved beyond the episode and emerged a changed person, including in the way she now speaks.

The actress also identified celebrities who supported her during the crisis.

She praised Patoranking as one of the musicians who responded positively when she reached out and also acknowledged former Super Eagles captain Ahmed Musa for his kindness.

“Among the musicians that I reached out to, Patoranking was one of the wonderful ones. I really appreciate him. I sent messages to Don Jazzy over 19 times, but he never replied. Ahmed Musa was kind to me, too,” she said.

Abubakar singled out reality television star Mercy Eke for unexpectedly supporting her.

She also thanked Destiny Etiko, Lizzy Gold, Monica Friday, Queeneth Agbor and Regina Daniels, whom she credited with providing major assistance, including free medical treatment.

“But Mercy, Big Brother, shocked me the most, and I’m so grateful for her,” she said.

Despite the pain she experienced, Abubakar insisted that she still loved her colleagues and had chosen gratitude over resentment
