Dolly Parton Health Update: Singer Cancels Las Vegas Residency Due to Medical Issues

Dolly Parton is not going to Las Vegas after all. The 80-year-old country legend announced Monday that she is canceling her long-awaited residency due to ongoing health issues, delivering the news to fans in a characteristically warm and candid Instagram video.

Good News and Bad News

Parton told fans she had “good news and bad news” to share.

The good news first: she is responding well to treatment and improving every day. The bad news is that it will take her a little longer than expected to feel well enough to perform, and so the residency is off.

The show had already been pushed back once. Parton announced last year that the residency, originally set to kick off in December 2025, would be moved to September 2026. This latest update means it will not be happening at all, at least for now.

Why She Can’t Perform Right Now

Parton was open about what has been going on with her health, though she did not name a specific condition. She explained that the medication she has been taking leaves her feeling a little “swimmy-headed,” which makes it difficult to play guitars and banjos on stage in five-inch heels and rhinestone outfits.

“And you know that I’m gonna be wearing them,” she added, managing to get a laugh out of even the difficult news.

She compared her body to a classic car that just needs some fine-tuning before it can hit the road again. She also opened up about some of the specific health struggles behind the scenes.

“I’ve always had problems with my kidney stones,” she said. “Lord, they dig more stones out of me a year than the rock quarry in Rockwood, Tenn. But seriously, my immune system and my digestive system got all out of whack over the past couple of years, and they’re working real hard on rebuilding their strength.”

Still Working, Still Moving Forward

Even though performing is off the table for now, Parton made clear she is not sitting still. She said she is especially focused on her upcoming Broadway musical and encouraged fans who were planning to see her in Vegas to look forward to that instead.

She also spoke honestly about the limits of what medicine can fix on the outside versus the inside. “Plastic surgeons can make you look as good as you can on the outside, but it’s serious business when you’re talking about internal medicine,” she said. “But I have great doctors, and they assure me that everything is treatable.”

A Difficult Year

The health news comes more than a year after Parton lost her husband of 58 years, Carl Dean, who passed away in March 2025. She thanked fans for the outpouring of support she received in the months that followed, saying their love gave her strength as she navigated the holidays and other milestones without him.
