Diddy clip resurfaces after death of actress Daveigh Chase at 35

A 2003 video involving Sean “Diddy” Combs and late actress Daveigh Chase has resurfaced online following news of her death at the age of 35.

Chase, best known for her roles in The Ring and Lilo & Stitch, died on Tuesday after reportedly suffering complications from meningitis and a blood infection that led to sepsis.

The resurfaced clip was recorded at the 2003 MTV Movie Awards, where Chase, then 12, received the Best Villain award for her performance as Samara Morgan in The Ring.

In the footage, Combs, who was then 33, appeared alongside actor Ashton Kutcher as Chase accepted the award.

The clip shows Combs asking Chase whether she was “coming to the afterparty,” a moment that has since attracted renewed attention on social media.

Following Chase’s death, several users began sharing the video again, with many questioning the exchange in light of Combs’ recent legal troubles.

Combs is currently serving a prison sentence after being convicted in 2025 on prostitution-related charges under the federal Mann Act. He was sentenced to four years and two months in prison, alongside supervised release and a financial penalty.

During his trial, prosecutors presented evidence relating to his conduct with former girlfriend Casandra “Cassie” Ventura and another witness. Combs was, however, acquitted of more serious charges, including racketeering conspiracy and sex trafficking.

A representative for Combs had previously denied wrongdoing in connection with the resurfaced MTV clip, saying the moment had been misrepresented by social media users and commentators.

Chase never publicly commented on the footage, and there is no confirmed evidence that she attended any afterparty involving Combs.

Before her death, Chase had reportedly lived away from the public eye for several years. Her former manager, John Ryan, said efforts had been made to reconnect with her and provide support before her condition worsened.

Chase rose to fame as a child star in the early 2000s. She voiced Lilo in Disney’s Lilo & Stitch and also played Samara Morgan in the horror film The Ring.

She also appeared in Donnie Darko, Sabrina the Teenage Witch, ER and Big Love before gradually stepping away from Hollywood.

Her death has sparked tributes from fans, many of whom remembered her as one of the most recognisable child stars of her era.
