Deschamps Rejects France Players’ Request for Night Party Ahead of World Cup Third-Place Clash with England

France head coach Didier Deschamps has reportedly turned down a request from his players for a night out ahead of their 2026 FIFA World Cup third-place playoff against England.

According to French newspaper L’Equipe, members of the French squad had asked for a free evening following their disappointing 2-0 semi-final defeat to Spain, hoping the break would help them relax and mentally recover before their final match of the tournament.

The players reportedly believed that spending an evening away from the team’s routine would provide an opportunity to clear their minds after missing out on a place in the World Cup final.

However, Deschamps rejected the proposal, insisting that the team remain fully focused on Saturday’s encounter with England.

The veteran coach is said to be determined to ensure France end their World Cup campaign on a positive note and avoid suffering consecutive defeats after their semi-final exit.

France have already travelled from their World Cup training base in Boston to Miami, where they will face England in the third-place playoff.

The match offers both European giants an opportunity to salvage some pride after falling short of reaching the final.

England also head into the fixture looking to bounce back from disappointment after suffering a 2-1 defeat to Argentina in their semi-final on Wednesday.

With both teams narrowly missing out on the World Cup final, Saturday’s contest is expected to be a competitive battle as France and England seek to conclude their campaigns with a victory and secure third place at the tournament.

Deschamps’ decision highlights his determination to maintain discipline and concentration within the squad, despite the emotional setback of the semi-final defeat, as France aim to avoid ending their World Cup journey with back-to-back losses.
