Dangote refinery exports 456,000 tonnes of petroleum products to Ghana, Togo

The Dangote Petroleum Refinery has announced the successful sale of 12 cargoes of refined petroleum products, amounting to a total of 456,000 tonnes (456KT).

Speaking to journalists on Sunday, the company noted that the shipments—handled by traders and delivered to countries such as Cote d’Ivoire, Cameroon, Tanzania, Ghana, and Togo—represent its petrol export milestone after reaching a production capacity of 650,000 barrels per day (bpd) in February.

“The products were sold on a FOB (Free on Board) basis to the end international traders for deliveries to the above-identified countries of export,” the refinery said.

“This achievement highlights the Dangote Refinery’s ability not just to satisfy Nigeria’s domestic fuel needs but to surpass them.

“It further reflects the refinery’s expanding role in delivering high-quality Euro 5 gasoline and diesel to West Africa — a region historically underserved and often treated as a dumping ground for substandard fuels — as well as to other emerging export destinations.”

According to the company, supplying fuel to neighbouring and other African countries positions the refinery to enhance energy security across West, East, and Central Africa.

The refinery added that this strategy helps cut down logistics and supply chain bottlenecks associated with long-distance fuel imports, reduces cost pressures in regional fuel markets through closer sourcing, and strengthens trade relationships between Nigeria and other key African economies.

Reports also indicate that several African nations that previously relied heavily on large refineries in the Persian Gulf are now turning to the Dangote refinery as an alternative supply source.
