Dad whose wife expecting second child gored on ‘street of hell’ during a Spanish bull-running festival
A dad whose wife is expecting his second child was gored to death during a Spanish bull-running festival in a sickening attack in an area known as the “street of hell.”
Blood-curdling video shared online shows the bull hoisting cattle breeder Santiago Barrero San Román, 33, into the air on Friday, then repeatedly stabbing him with its horns during the San Marcos festival in Jaén.
The rampaging animal continued to batter San Román, a cattle breeder and dad to a young girl, on Calle Palomares, which is known locally as the “street of hell” because of the intensity of the bull runs there.
San Román was pinned against a fence — despite the best efforts of other revelers trying to reel the animal in.
Around six onlookers tugged a rope that was wrapped around the bull’s horns – while others cowered behind a makeshift fence.
San Román, who was part of a local cattle farming dynasty, was left with severe abdominal, chest and groin injuries and he later died in hospital, Spanish outlet El Haberler reported.
San Román leaves behind his daughter and his pregnant wife Vanesa, who is expecting a second girl.
“You are the most beautiful thing that has ever happened to me,” the grieving widow wrote on Instagram. “From the moment I wake up until I go to sleep, you are my first and last thought.”
“You are everything to me, to our daughters. I hope you give me strength and accompany me every day of my life, every step of the way, because I swear I will never stop thinking about you, about our dreams, our plans, our life together.
“I’m broken for life because life has taken you from me unjustly and far too soon, because you had your whole life ahead of you with everything you had achieved.
“Your girls, your mother, your best friends, and everyone in the bullfighting world who truly loved you are devastated, but we will always keep you in our hearts, my love.”
San Román died just four days after renowned matador Morante de la Puebla, dubbed the “King of Bullfighters,” was gored up his rectum during a performance gone wrong at the packed Maestranza arena in Seville.
