CRACKDOWN ON PREDATORS: Anambra Police Command Arraigns 12 Suspects Over Rape, Defilement, And Child Abuse Matrix

AWKA, NIGERIA — The Anambra State Police Command has launched an aggressive legal offensive against gender-based violence and child exploitation, formally arraigning twelve suspects before a specialized Gender Magistrate Court sitting in the state capital.
The massive judicial crackdown, announced on Thursday by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, follows targeted operations aimed at extracting vulnerable minors and young women from predatory networks across multiple local government areas.
The Litany of Abuse Cases
According to formal police briefs presented before the Gender Magistrate Court on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, the suspects face severe criminal counts ranging from gang-rape and statutory defilement to unlawful abduction and the physical torture of domestic helps.
Among those brought to the dock were Chima Onyeanuna, Emeka Muo, and Okafor Chibundu, who are being prosecuted for the coordinated abduction and subsequent defilement of a 14-year-old girl in the Nanka enclave of Orumba North Local Government Area.
In another major case file, police prosecutors arraigned Ndubuisi Ikechebelu, Udogu Kennedy, Nnamah Christopher, and Chinecherem Emmanuel. The four men are accused of repeatedly raping a 19-year-old girl on different occasions, a continuous assault that resulted in her pregnancy.

The court also heard the case of a domestic layout where Charity Anakwe and Chidiere Anakwe allegedly used excessive physical violence against their 12-year-old house help.


Court Orders Remand at Awka Correctional Centre
Following the formal reading of the charges, the presiding magistrate refused bail applications for the suspects, citing the severe nature of the offenses and the need to protect witnesses and victims from intimidation.
The court ordered that all twelve suspects be remanded in custody at the Awka Correctional Centre pending the formal assignment of trial dates and legal advice from the State Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
Zero Tolerance for Gender-Based Violence
SP Tochukwu Ikenga maintained that the synchronized arraignments send a clear signal that the command will completely dismantle domestic and sexual abuse networks across Anambra State.
“The Command reiterates its zero tolerance for sexual and gender-based violence, child abuse, and all forms of violence against vulnerable persons,” Ikenga stated. “The Command also assures the public that the Police will continue to diligently investigate such cases and ensure that offenders are brought to justice in accordance with the law.”
Child rights advocates in Awka have lauded the rapid intervention of the police command, noting that utilizing specialized gender courts will accelerate justice for the victims and keep dangerous sexual predators off the streets.
