Chiziterem Ozuluigbo: 10-year-old Boy Abused By Guardians Discharged From Hospital In Anambra

Ten-year-old Chiziterem Ozuluigbo, whose case sparked nationwide outrage over alleged child abuse, has been discharged from the hospital after making a full recovery.

The child was discharged on Saturday, July 18, and returned to his hometown of Umuofiagu-Ukehe in Igbo-Etiti Local Government Area of Enugu State on Sunday.

Chiziterem’s case drew widespread public attention in June after a viral video showed him with severe burns and other injuries allegedly inflicted by his former guardians in Obosi, Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State.

The disturbing footage triggered nationwide condemnation and renewed calls for stricter enforcement of child protection laws, as well as stronger safeguards for vulnerable children across the country.

Following the incident, the Anambra State Government facilitated the boy’s admission to a medical facility, where he received specialised treatment for his injuries. The government also pledged to oversee his recovery and provide support to his family.

Medical caregivers confirmed that, beyond treating his burns and other physical injuries, Chiziterem also underwent psychological therapy to help him recover from the emotional trauma associated with the alleged abuse.

His successful recovery has been welcomed by many Nigerians who closely followed the case and expressed concern over his welfare.

Meanwhile, the Anambra State Police Command has arraigned the child’s former guardians, Mr. Chukwudi Chukwuyere, 40, and Mrs. Chisom Chukwuyere, 30, over the alleged abuse.

The suspects have been remanded in a correctional facility pending the commencement of their trial.

The case continues to attract public interest, with child rights advocates calling for justice for Chiziterem and urging authorities to ensure that anyone found culpable is held accountable in accordance with the law.
