Nigerian entrepreneur, Bunmi George, popularly known as Jbums, has revealed that her husband worked at her company and earned a salary for 11 months after losing his job as a pilot.

Speaking on a podcast published on Monday, the fitness expert described the period as one that ultimately strengthened their marriage.

She said her husband took practical steps to help the family adjust to living on a single income, including cutting household expenses and working in her business.

According to her, his first response after losing his job was to sit down and review the family’s finances.

She recalled that he told her they needed to cut down their expenses, noting that between their two cars, one had to be let go.

He also proposed reducing the number of domestic staff, arguing that the family could no longer sustain its previous lifestyle.

Although she pointed out that she was still earning an income, he insisted that with only one source of income coming in, everything had to be scaled back.

George said her husband did not merely propose cost-cutting measures but led by example, taking on more responsibility around the house to show her it was possible to adjust.

She disclosed that he later joined her company, Shredder Gang, working alongside other staff and earning a salary like any other employee, adding that he sometimes personally handled product deliveries, with some customers unaware they were being served by her husband.

She described his decision as an act of humility and leadership, saying he did not simply stay home but chose to work for his wife and do whatever was needed.

She explained that she remained intentional about continuing to honour him despite becoming the family’s sole breadwinner during that period, stressing that leadership, in her view, is not about how much money one makes but about the position one holds in the home.

She said she was careful with her words and actions, not because her husband had any issue working for her, but because she wanted to ensure she still honoured him through that season.

Reflecting on the experience, she said the difficult period ultimately brought them closer as a couple, adding that she would not change it even if she had to relive it.

She said her husband remained active throughout his period of unemployment, praying, fasting, helping with chores and preparing the family for future challenges, telling her that should anything ever happen to him, he wanted her to know how to lead, and that he intended to show her how.
