Prof. Chris Nwaokobia has argued that age should not be viewed in isolation when assessing political leadership, insisting that Nigeria’s weak institutions make it inappropriate to compare former Vice President Atiku Abubakar with U.S. President Donald Trump despite Trump’s older age.

The political analyst made the remarks during an interview on Mic On Podcast, on Saturday, 20 June, 2026, while explaining why he believes Atiku should step back from active politics. Nwaokobia maintained that the difference lies not in the age of the leaders but in the quality of the systems within which they operate.
