BREAKING: Senator Abbas Blasts ADC Defection Claims as “Fake and Malicious”

Senator Aminu Iya Abbas, who represents the Adamawa Central Senatorial District, has formally dismissed reports linking him to a planned defection to the African Democratic Congress ahead of the 2027 general elections, describing the speculation as false, deceptive, and politically motivated.

A statement released by his media office in Yola rejected the allegations in their entirety, characterising the unnamed individuals quoted in the circulating reports as deliberate spreaders of misinformation aimed at causing unnecessary tension within Adamawa’s political environment.

The rumours emerged following online reports that suggested the senator was considering leaving the APC to pursue a senatorial ticket under the ADC after the conclusion of the APC governorship primary in Adamawa State. His media aides said the claims were fabricated by opponents unsettled by his growing political influence.

“The senator remains loyal to his political party and continues to play a significant role in strengthening its structure and activities,” the statement read.

The media office added that Senator Abbas’s attention is presently concentrated on his legislative responsibilities and the welfare of his constituents rather than early political calculations for 2027. His stated priorities remain the advancement of Adamawa State through improved infrastructure, empowerment opportunities for young people, and policies capable of boosting economic growth across the region.

Supporters, stakeholders, and members of the public were advised to disregard the defection rumours, which the media office described as unfounded and without substance.

The timing of the rumours is not difficult to understand in context. Abbas contested the APC governorship primary on May 21, 2026, a race won decisively by Ahmed Tijjani Galadima with 414,444 votes. Abbas’s political trajectory following that primary, including the reported direction from the national APC leadership for Comrade Mustapha Salihu to contest the Adamawa Central senatorial seat, and the continued postponement of the Central senatorial primary without a rescheduled date, has generated speculation in political circles about where the senator’s 2027 aspirations will ultimately land.

His media office’s categorical denial of any ADC interest is a clear public positioning: whatever the next chapter of his political career holds, he is not writing it outside the APC.
